observations from the state of the union address

  1. nine o’clock in the p.m. seems an awfully late time to begin a long political event.
  2. the vice president has a nice smile.
  3. it is more interesting to watch the republicans squirm and make faces than to watch the democrats give standing ovations.
  4. president obama gives a pretty good speech.
  5. railroads!
  6. nuclear power!
  7. there is an entire blog (!) devoted to mrs. obama’s wardrobe.
