the justice of the universe

just a few days ago i was congratulating myself with how well i was handling winter. how surprised i was that the kids (and myself) hadn’t been sick. how delightful i was finding january snow and hot chocolate and the kids’ snow pants and gloves and socks and what all spread across the entry of the house.

and then, the justice of the universe. everyone is sick, including myself. the beautiful snow turned to rain and mud and then to ice and frozen brown muck.  it seems like the gray of winter will never end.

i imagine we all could use a peek at something delightful. so here’s the first of a weekly series: let’s call it “stuff on the internet i like.” there is so much out there to like and i always appreciate tips from friends on sites that are delightful or cheeky or delicious, so hopefully you’ll enjoy checking out some of the places i like to hang out online. {and please feel invited to share any sites that have a similar theme to the one i’m highlighting. we could all use more delight.}

first up: the bright side project.

i can’t remember how i stumbled my way here, but i suppose that doesn’t matter. what does matter is that the two ladies behind the bright side project have impeccable taste AND they give away something every single day. and not a lame something, either. (i would give away lame somethings. like dental floss.) and unlike most give aways you’ll find these days, the winners are not chosen at random, they’re chosen by their thoughtful answers to very interesting questions. so go. enter to win something. and let me know if you do. i have yet to get lucky enough —- but i love answering the questions and browsing the contributors anyway.

and in case that isn’t enough happy to cure your january afternoon, watch this little video.

  • Thank you so much for sharing that video. I have my second drawing class ever tonight and I am actually going inspired because of you.

  • i think the universe is just trying to say, “that’s what you get for squeezing me so much.”

    hahahha. how’s that for humor in this forever winter? i’m with you, it is bleak and bleak and bleak and bleak. and when i don’t get enough sleep, or heaven forbid anyone gets sick, the walls start looking like they are covered in yellow wallpaper, if you know what i mean. wink wink.

    Here’s a site that makes me laugh and give me perspective, although it’s in no way similar to your link.

    Seeing all these privileged people taking themselves far too seriously and mocking them somehow makes me see the bigger picture when I am in a mood.
