rejected

October 4th, 2007

i submitted my piece erosion (inspired by a blog post a few months ago, actually) to brevity magazine. i’ve worshipped brevity ever since they came online. everything so short, so pithy, so perfect. it’s been my tiny little pocket dream for them to snatch up something of mine.

well, it’s a no go. here’s my very own email from dinty w. moore …

Ms. Curtis,

This one came close, but in the end we have decided to pass on it. We are shocked (though pleased, as well) by the number and quality of submissions we are receiving these days, and the calls are becoming more, and more difficult.

Please keep us on your list to submit again,

Wow! A real rejection letter! I hope to someday have enough courage to send something out and get a rejection letter, too. Good job, Jessie!

At least they responded. I liked your piece on erosion. Keep up the good work, keep your head held high, and some day when you least expect it, someone will get some sense in their head and snatch up your work!

Your rejection letter was better than mine. I didn’t even get the “This one came close” Kudos for being brave and submitting.
