i only started the book thief last night, but the spell is cast.
i want to take each one of zusak’s sentences and just hold it. they’re beautiful. they’re strange. they’re so thick you can taste them. it’s a novel about the holocaust, and yet, … it turns the whole world inside out.
the last time i saw her was red. the sky was like soup, boiling and stirring. in some places, it was burned. there were black crumbs, and pepper, streaked across the redness. (12)
what a relief that i still have over 500 deliciously quirky pages in front of me.

I loved this book. I loved the language, I love the characters, I love the narrator, everything. Normally I avoid books about the Holocaust since they are so depressing (and I don’t need any help getting depressed - I’m pretty good at that by myself), but after reading the first page of this book I was hooked and couldn’t leave it alone.
It was not a quick read for me, though. I had to put it away regularly to digest it.
Jess,
This is not really about the book. Although it sounds good. I just checked out your website…it is so wonderfully you. It’s after 10 so it sort of feels like I just had a ten minute chat with you.
I hope Cleveland is treating you well. I bet you’re fast asleep!

I loved this interesting book. It took me a while to pick back up after the first couple of chapters but I did and I am glad!
