confession

June 16th, 2008

i’ve been very busy. very busy not finishing the brothers karamazov. no, since about february, i’ve been doing something i’ve never done before and i just wrapped it up saturday night. [yeah, i know you’re wondering what in the world could take months, besides reading the brothers karamazov.]

i just watched the gilmore girls from season one all the way to the bitter end of season seven. [i’m not sure i even want to calculate how many useless hours of tv viewing that turned out to be.]

i’ve been having dreams about paris geller for months. i’ve been having dinner conversations with joe (yes, somehow i roped him into the occasional episode) wherein we discuss the various choices of lorelai and rory. occasionally these conversations even trump details about joe’s patients and their teeth.

on one hand, i will miss those crazy gilmores and sookie’s pigtails. on the other, i cannot believe how much of their fake lives these fake people spent fighting. really, who fights with their mom every single day about every single thing she says? it just seems so exhausting.

am i the only one in the world who enjoys calm, pleasant relationships with little to no conflict?

ditto on the calmness. and ditto on not reading the brothers karamazov. i just had to renew mine from the library. it helped remind me that i have only read 75 pages in 3 weeks. now that’s just sad.

Those Gilmore Girls: such a guilty pleasure. And yes, much like how they roll out witty repartee at an inhuman speed, the drama of their lives is way over the top.

But then again, you know you’re not dealing with a realistic world when two girls that thin claim to do nothing but eat double cheeseburgers, donuts and candy. Pshaw.

i’m pretty sure, kate, that we could give those girls a run for their money in the witty repartee department. and i’m just as sure i would be as skinny as those gilmores if i held cheeseburgers instead of eating them. (i should have kept a tally of the actual number of times i saw either lorelai or rory taking a bite of anything: a bite followed by chewing and swallowing.)

Yes, I do come to your blog and read about what you are doing….one of my guilty pleasures :) And I am so happy to learn that you loved watching Gilmore Girls…I got addicted to the show after visiting my family in Japan one summer ;)

BTW, I’m moving closer to you, soon. I’m moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan in August. Not sure how far away that is, but I think it’s not too far from Cleveland…Keep the blogs coming!

i was given a link to your site by my cousin, heather, who thought i might enjoy it…and she is right! i’m an english-nerd who loves writing and who loves reading even more. and to know that you are a gilmore girls fan as well…there’s just nothing more to be said. i am hooked. and right now i’m living in malaysia so it’s harder to get books (not because they’re scarce, but ex-pen-sive) but i will see what i can do because i’d love to follow along with your reading group. thanks for giving me something fun to be a part of!
