    to the new year

d1.jpg henry wishes you all months full of delight in 2008! (i can tell because i’m his mom.)

and a hurrah to all those of you who read with us in december. i don’t think that any of us will soon forget naomi leon.

to all you hesitant, please sidestep your shyness and join us in january’s read: it’s sure to stoke up some thought in the midst of your winter blues. we’re reading my name is asher lev by chaim potok–a gem of a novel. it belongs on your life’s “must read!” list. you’ll find it an easier read than housekeeping and more intellectually complex than becoming naomi leon.

our guest host for january’s read is maren mceuen. maren lives in dorchester, massachusetts, a neighborhood of boston famous for its old mansions, sandy beaches, and high crime rate. she works as an attorney in boston, while her husband attends MIT as a graduate student. she has two boys, 2 years and 2 months old, and a perpetually messy house. she loves to bake and travel, and hasn’t written anything other than a legal brief or article in several years.

i’m sure you have a hairy long list of new year’s resolutions, but add reading to the top of the list. it makes you smarter. it makes you a better person. it makes you more interesting. and it helps you lose twenty pounds. (somehow, i’m sure … )

we have a great list of books lined up for the year ahead with interesting, intellectual, and nice guest hosts to lead you through book mayhem. please, join us! please, read!
